Tv turned on by itself?!?

Hello, when I was younger my mom and I went on vacation up to SD to visit family I had up there. Well, one night we stopped in Wichita at a hotel to get some sleep. That night, a huge storm came through and there was a huge bolt of lightning and a huge clap of thunder, and when that happened the tv turned on automatically, and the same thing happened with the neighbors next door to us in their room... what happened?
